Channel Your Inner Pirate
Rumors claim that world-famous pirates, including Blackbeard and Spanish buccaneer José Gaspar or Gasparilla, left treasure near the shores of Miami Beach, Florida. Since then, locals and tourists alike have scoured the sands of Miami’s beaches, looking for lost treasure. Surprisingly, a fair share of gold hunters have reportedly been successful. “A Tiffany and Co. platinum wedding band worth more than $2,000, a 3/4-carat diamond ring, a 2-carat ruby ring and a mint-condition Rolex Submariner watch are just a few of the riches Gary Drayton [a treasure hunter] recovered during his metal-hunting days,” Watch Dog writes. “His best find was a 9-carat Spanish-era emerald ring.” CNN explains that drops are also fairly common. In other words, vacationers and beach-goers slather on sunscreen lotion, fingers can swell in the ocean, and rings will often fall off and wash up on the shore.
What If Your Treasure Hunt Is Unsuccessful?
“Miami is an ideal place to come up with a Rolex watch or a good diamond ring or something like that. You can find a lot of stuff down there on South Beach,” Tim Higginbotham tells CNN. What should you do if you aren’t one of the lucky ones? Miami’s luxury vacation rentals and luxury condo rentals should be enough to cheer you up. Most are located just minutes away from Miami’s nightclubs (and the majority of those are open until 5 a.m.!). If you want to stay in, Miami’s condos often come equipped with hot tubs, pools, gyms, and clubhouses.
Deep down, do you fancy yourself a treasure hunter? Miami, FL is one of the best places to realize your pirate-inspired dreams, and — if that doesn’t work out — Miami’s beaches, nightclubs, and luxury condos should be enough to console you.
